The old and sacred Sergiev-Posad is perfect for a day trip (just 1,5 hour drive, 70km from Moscow). This Golden ring city was founded in the 14th century, a monastery and now in this city is the largest and historically most important monastery in Russia - Holy Trinity monastery. Some of the country’s most famous painters lived and worked here, including notorious Andrey Rublev, the best medieval icon painter. This is a saint place for all russian people, because this is the motherland and burial place of the most respected Russian Saint - Sergy Radonezhsky.
